The Port of Bremerhaven
Columbus Cruise Center Bremerhaven
In all fields, the technical requirements have been met for optimal handling. For instance, there is the fast and reliable luggage processing system which saves the passengers form having to carry baggage over a long distance. Easy check-in at modern desks in the reception area or the delivery of suitcases to departing coaches at the covered bus terminus are also examples of this concept.
Also with regard to ISPS security measures, a lot is being done to make the experience as pleasant as possible for the passenger. A large, air-conditioned and tastefully decorated reception area with comfortable seats combined with airport style security gates ensure that the passenger feels as relaxed as possible.
The internet café, WI-FI, the ATM, the terminal shop and the bike-rental within the terminal are examples of how service for crew members and tour guides have been optimised.
The Columbus Cruise Center Bremerhaven combines dedicated customer service and professional terminal equipment.
Behind the scenes, a modern and multifaceted train of machinery is available with all handling and the dispatch of the cruise ships can be accomplished. Therefore the technical preconditions of the vessels and the shipping companies´ wishes can be met remarkably good.
Getting to the City Center
Getting to the center of Bremerhaven is quite easy. Once you leave the terminal building you can either walk, take a taxi or a shuttle bus if one has been arranged. Walking would take about 25-30 minutes each way. The walk is quite nice if you opt to walk over the dike. It is one straight line to the center. Walk towards the highest building in the surroundings, the one that looks like a copy of the Dubai iconnic hotel. Once there turn left and cross the big street. There you will find a huge shopping mall to your right and nice long shopping streets.
Things to Do
Thanks to first-class transport links, the cruise terminal still lives from the many different kinds of excursions available on land. Bremerhaven, Bremen and Hamburg are some examples of the various destinations on offer.
Bremerhaven
With the German Emigration Center, Bremerhaven can boast a museum of international significance which deals with passenger shipping and emigration in an interesting context.
In addition, the new Klimahaus Bremerhaven 8° Ost offers a unique and scientifically sound learning and activity center which allows visitors of all ages to plunge into a multifaceted world of knowledge and adventure. This journey includes something for all our senses, and allows the visitor to experience extreme heat, humidity and cold as he gets to know different people around the globe and the climates in which they live.
The German Maritime Museum which houses exhibits ranging from the oldest boat in the world to a submarine. The only surviving Hansa cog is another major attraction, as is the Zoo am Meer with its polar bears, artic foxes and seals in a fantastic environment of desolate polar landscapes or colourful tundra. Both attractions can be found at about 20 minutes walk from the ship to the right of the building in the picture above.

Bremen
The Town Hall and the Statue of Roland are both about 600 years old and have been included in the Unesco list of World Heritage Sites since 2004. The Town Hall compels with an impressive facade in the Weser-Renaissance style, while Roland watsches over the Market Square as a symbol of freedom.
The oldest part of Bremen is the Schnoor, which brings Bremen´s past back to life. Tiny, narrow half timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries stand site-by-site like a string of pearls, hence the name, the Low German Word for a string being "Schnoor". Here tourists can stroll close to the river Weser between goldsmiths and handcraft studios, enjoy ice cream or coffee in one of the many cafés and restaurants or buy souvenirs to take home.
Bremen is located 65km (about 45 minutes drive) from Bremerhaven.
Events in Bremen: Bremen Christmas Market, Schlachte Magic ( Medieval Christmas market ), Bremer Freimarkt - the largest volksfest in northern Germany etc.
