Hi, I’m Sophie Deans, founder of Her Solo Travel Guide, host to a bundle of helpful online tools and resources designed to help solo female travelers feel confident and connected on their adventures — without worrying about feeling self-conscious or lonely!

I was driven to create this because I’ve been there! A nervous first-time solo traveler who wanted to get out and see the world but didn’t have anyone to travel with at the time - I was tired of waiting for others to be ready…
According to a recent survey, over 44% of women hold off from even starting solo travel because they wouldn’t have someone to share the experience with. 33% are concerned about feeling lonely if they go solo and 20% worry about having to dine alone.
And that makes sense, that’s totally natural! No one wants to feel self-conscious while eating alone, or arrive at a dream destination far from home and feel disappointed that it isn’t all the fun they imagined it to be.
This is exactly why cruises can be an amazing first step for women new to solo travel. You still get the freedom to go when and where you want — but with the built-in structure, safety, and social settings that make connecting with other travelers easier.
Many cruise lines now offer “singles tables,” solo traveler meetups, or shared excursions designed to help guests meet others without pressure; so you get the best of both worlds!
But what happens when you’re off the boat — or if the singles table feels a little more awkward than inviting? There’s definitely things you can do to still find like-minded souls and make friends wherever you go!

From over 13 years experience of my own solo trips, plus relocating to other side of the world, I created Solo to Social. It’s my tried & tested series of tools & step-by-step video tutorials for solo female travelers that shows you exactly how to:
- Get the confidence to actually go on your solo trip
- Plan meetups for when you arrive at your destination
- Put yourself in the right places to meet like-minded travelers just like you
- Always have someone to share your travel experiences with - so you never feel lonely
So, if you’re thinking about a cruise — or any solo trip — but still feel a little nervous, Solo to Social was made for you. (No matter your age or destination!!)
You’ll also get a list of cruise lines that specifically look to accommodate solo travelers, as well as ready-to-use ice-breakers to make connection EVEN easier, whether you're at sea or exploring a new city.
